Resurfacing of Courts 3 & 4

Caversham LTC is very excited  announce the resurfacing of Courts 3 & 4 from Monday 22nd March.  Work will take between 4-5 weeks to complete, so some disruption will be unavoidable.  Please be patient with us but the result will be 2 new courts, moved forward and away from the trees at the back (no more moss problems) and resurfaced with state of the art TEXPLAY II – It will look like grass but without the mowing.

Texplay II is a polypropylene Macadam court that provides a similarly paced surface to Tennitex acrylic porous courts but offers better grip when damp and more effective cushioning.    Texplay II has permanent inlaid lines and factory made joins which are guaranteed for the life of the surface.  It is a good choice for experienced players and beginners, vets and juniors.

If you require further information please don’t hesitate to contact the office or email office@cavershamltc.co.uk.

Winter 2008/2009

Issue No. 3

Winter Leagues

By comparison with last winter’s matches, which were badly affected by adverse weather, this winter season has run relatively smoothly, and all matches have now been completed.

Ladies’ Teams

The League Results were:

Ladies’ 1st Team captained by Carol Hewson finished 2nd out of eight in Division 1, two points off the top spot.

Ladies’ 2nd Team captained by Nicki Brown was 4th out of eight in Division 2, a mere three points behind the eventual champions.

Ladies’ 3rd Team captained by Helen Goodchild narrowly missed promotion, finishing 3rd in Division 6 level on points with the 2nd Team.

Ladies’ 4th Team captained by Caroline Hailstone, finished 5th in Division 6, avoiding both promotion and relegation.

Men’s Teams

After a spectacularly successful summer season for the Mens’ Teams, (please see the certificates above the notice board in the Clubhouse), the winter season provided a return to a more normal round of results.

The Men’s 1st Team captained by Paul Lomas for the first time, finished top in Division 1, two points clear of second place.

The Men’s 2nd team captained by Steve Ratcliffe, finished 5th out of eight in Division 1, a diplomatic ten points behind the Caversham 1st Team.

The Men’s 3rd Team, captained by Anthony Leung finished 4th in Division 3.  Unfortunately, Anthony is not rejoining the Club:  he has been a member for some ten years, and a captain for much of that time.  He is to be thanked for his hard work, and congratulated for numerous successes.  He will be missed.

The Mens’ 4th Team, captained by Dudley Jones, (a West Midlands version of Indiana Jones), finished 2nd in Division 5 West, four points off the top spot.  Unfortunately, only one team is promoted from this division.

Martin Richmond guided the 5th Team to 3rd place in Division 7 West, only two points off the first place.  Martin is also leaving the Club, and should be thanked for his efforts over the last two seasons.

Mixed Teams

The 1st Team captained by Steve Ratcliffe and Sarah Baker finished 1st of five in Division 1.

The 2nd Team captained by Steve Ratcliffe and Sarah Baker finished 1st of five in Division 2, and are duly promoted.

The 3rd Team, captained by Paul Gudge and Mike Brooks finished 2nd in Division 5, two points off the top spot.  Unfortunately only one team is promoted.

The 4th Team, captained by Tracey Hart fought heroically, but finished at the foot of Division 10, with only one win.

Once again our thanks go particularly to the Team Captains, but also to all the members who have represented the Club.
